Great Musical Cities - Helsinki
presented by
DEREK KNEE
The
Finnish capital Helsinki has long been famous as the home
of one of the world's greatest composers, Jean Sibelius.
Since his death in 1957 it has become equally celebrated
for providing the musical world with a constant supply
of fine composers, performers, particularly singers and
conductors, orchestras and festivals.
DEREK KNEE will draw upon his experience of almost
50 years travelling to Helsinki to recall impressions
of our sixth musical city.

After Armageddon
presented by
BRIAN GARDINER
Some
of the most moving music comes from the great symphonic
adagios: passages of serenity often following moments of
great agitation. BRIAN plays and discusses some examples
from compositions by masters of the form.
