Our New Venue is Voted a Success.
Both our members and the presenters have commented
on how much better our new venue is compared to the old.
There were small problems when we first moved in, but these have been overcome
by the determination of members to make the venue a success.
The chairs are more comfortable, disabled access is better ( it's good to see
Bob Almond back again!), the venue is warm and the acoustics are better. What
more could we want!
A Good Start to the new Season
The start of o

ur
new season has been very successful with good attendances and interesting speakers.
Of the new speakers the presentation by Bryan Davies was especially memorable,
not only for his tremendous knowledge of his subject, but also his ability to
illustrate with long passages on the piano!
Nicholas Jones quickly removed any doubts we may have had about the music of
Peter Maxwell Davies and even gave us instructions for ordering CD's from the
"maxopus" web site!
We also welcomed back many old friends, including Norman White of Nimbus who
was able to slot in at short notice when Jamie Miller Coburn was indisposed.
The Christmas evening was well attended and the entertainment provided by Mike
& Peggy Newman, accompanied by David Perkins, was well received.
Operatorio in St David's Hall

Our presentations of opera and oratorio at St
David's Hall have been well attended and enjoyed by all.
The team is now considering what to do next season.
Because it has been such a success,
St David's Hall have asked
us to make this an annual event instead of every other year, and it is proposed
to present ten monthly programmes starting in September 2006. The topics have
not yet been chosen, but we will probably be presenting a number of shorter
topics. Watch for details when they become available.
Retirements
Two
members have relinquished jobs that they have been doing for the Society for
a long time. Harry Strawbridhge has decided to hear the programmes from the
Hall rather than his usual place at the sound equipment. Harry joined the
Society in 1958 and has held a committee position ever since, We hope he continues
to enjoy the Society meetings during his well-earned rest. Harry was presented
with an engraved glass bowl to mark his retirement.
Rowland Edwards has decided to give up the job of stage manager and this duty
is to be taken over by Paul Hooker. Rowland has enlivened our meetings with
the heading boards which have been universally admired.
