"I'll Sing You Something New" |
|
This
rather prophetic line from Berlioz's "Faust"
introduces the first of two Society presentations marking
Hector Berlioz's bicentenary year.
TIM TAYLOR, Senior Lecturer, Music Department, Cardiff
University, offers a survey of his works involving the
voice from the songs to the 'Grande Messe des Morts'.
Was he really ahead of his time? Was it fair for an early
critic to label the opera "Les Troyens" "a
magnificent failure"? |

Berlioz and the Orchestra |
|
| After
Berlioz, the symphony orchestra was never the same again.
Both through his works and through his 'Treatise on Instrumentation'
Berlioz influenced his contemporaries and also later composers
through to the twentieth century. COLIN DANCER
presents this, the second programme, in our Berlioz bi-
centenary year celebration. |
